Beautiful Art Deco vase designed by Charles Catteau in 1927. At the bottom of the vase, the decor number as well as the Keramis logo and shape number are stamped. This original vase (so not a reproduction!) is in beautiful condition; no crack present and no small flakes are missing.

The decor with number D.1130 includes a multicolored decor with exotic birds. The neck is accentuated with an ocher yellow and a water green trim. Pairs of stylized parakeets are present on the vase, each on a thorn branch that starts from the foot and is decorated at the end with a bouquet of stylized flowers. The birds are each silhouetted against a maroon hexagon heightened with yellow ocher volutes, with, in the case of the females, an arch of stylized flowers around it.

The vase has shape number 1264. This number was printed at the bottom of the vase (see photo).

Both the decor and shape number are mentioned in the reference work on Charles Catteau by Marc Pairon.

Designer Charles Catteau (1880-1966) was the artistic director of Royal Boch in the period 1920-1930. Their participation in the 'International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Art' in Paris in 1925 was innovative: the ceramist won a gold medal and began his most fruitful years in which the typical, historical Art Deco shapes and motifs emerged.
