Beautiful Art Deco vase designed by Charles Catteau in the 1930s. The decor number as well as the Keramis logo and shape number are stamped at the bottom of the vase. There are no cracks to be seen and no small flakes are missing. There is some discoloration at the bottom of the back (see photos).
The height of the vase is about 30 cm, width and depth are 19.5 cm.
The decor with number D.2243 includes a cobalt blue band around the neck and foot, flanked by a wreath of stylized roses and leaves. Across belly height are three groups of stylized flowers. The colors used are cobalt blue, pink (three shades), grey, royal blue, burgundy red, yellow, orange yellow and light blue glaze on a light yellow background.
The vases have shape number 975.
Both the decor and shape number are mentioned in the reference work on Charles Catteau by Marc Pairon.
Designer Charles Catteau (1880-1966) was the artistic director of Royal Boch in the period 1920-1930. Their participation in the 'International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Art' in Paris in 1925 was innovative: the ceramist won a gold medal and began his most fruitful years in which the typical, historical Art Deco shapes and motifs emerged.
