This original scissor lamp by Kaiser Idell from the 1930s is rightly a true classic!
The wiring, plug and bulb were replaced completely. The switch at the top of the shade is still the original one and still works fine. The lamp has accumulated signs of wear over the years, which gives it even more character. The resulting patina certainly does not affect the operation of the scissor lamp. Also, a small piece of the metal clamp has broken off, but here too there is no harm to the operation.
The design of this scissor lamp is still very beautiful after all these years and is rightly a source of inspiration for many designers to this day.
Christian Dell was born in 1893 in Germany. He started his career as a silversmith and became leader of the Bauhaus metal workshop at the age of just 29. In the thirties he designed a whole series of lamps for the renowned company Gebr. Kaiser & Co.
