Mood lamp manufactured in the USSR in the mid-1960s. Mainly intended as propaganda, this lamp highlights several important Russian milestones, culminating in Russia's victory in space. The lamp represents the launch of the first rocket around the Earth with a human passenger on board, namely cosmonaut Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin.
The lamp was also on display at the exhibition 'Soviet Design, Red Wealth' (2018) at the Design Museum in Brussels.
Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin (March 9, 1934 – March 27, 1968) was the first human to travel into space, when his Vostok spacecraft completed an orbit around the Earth on April 12, 1961. died in March 1968 at the age of 34 in an accident with a MiG-15 fighter jet during a training flight near Moscow. The exact cause of the accident has never been revealed
